The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley

The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley does so much good for women and girls in our community. If you have a few minutes, please watch this video to learn more about the heart behind their work — who they are, what they do, and why it matters. 💜

We were so honored to be a part of this project and to support their work to amplify the voices of women and girls in our community and break down barriers to their success.

Cozy Front Porch Ideas to Welcome Fall

Colorful pumpkins and gourds tucked into a planter on a front porchAs the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, your front porch is the perfect place to celebrate the beauty of fall. With just a few simple touches, you can create a warm and inviting space that welcomes neighbors and guests with seasonal charm.

Start with the essentials. pumpkins and gourds in varying sizes and colors help to set the tone. Mix traditional oranges with muted whites and deep greens for a modern twist. Layer them on your steps or tuck them into planters for a natural look.

Next, bring in texture. A plaid throw draped over a rocking chair, a chunky knit pillow, or even a basket of firewood can add rustic charm. And of course, every door needs a seasonal wreath! We have so many designs to choose from, or we can work with you to create a custom item that matches your unique style and décor.

Don’t forget the lighting. Lanterns with flameless candles or strings of warm-toned fairy lights create a soft glow that makes your porch feel magical in the evening. These details will make your porch feel like a natural extension of your home: cozy, inviting, and unmistakably fall.

If you’re looking for more inspiration or hands-on assistance, visit our shop! We’d love to help you achieve the perfect fall look for your front porch.

How to Clean Silk Arrangements and Artificial Greenery

Silk flowers and artificial greenery are a beautiful, low-maintenance way to add lasting style to your space. But even faux florals need an occasional deep clean to maintain their vibrancy. Here are a few simple tips to help keep your silk arrangements looking their best:

1. Rinse Well
Place your wreath or arrangement in the bathtub and hose it down to remove all dust. For larger pieces or trees, you can do the same outdoors.

2. Shake it Off
Give the piece a good shake to remove excess water.

3. Air Dry
Take the item outside and allow it to dry in the sun.

4. Fluff and Shape
After drying, gently reshape petals, leaves, and stems as needed to restore their fullness.

That’s it. With a bit of time and care, your faux florals will remain beautiful for years to come.

How to Care for Fresh Cut Flowers: Keep Your Blooms Beautiful Longer

There’s nothing like a fresh floral bouquet to brighten up a room. But without proper care, vibrant blooms can wilt too soon. Here are a few simple tips to help your fresh cut flowers last longer:

1. Trim the Stems
As soon as you bring your flowers home, trim 1–2 inches off the stems at a 45-degree angle.

2. Use Clean Water
Fill a clean vase with lukewarm water and flower food. Change the water every 2–3 days, rinsing the vase first.

3. Remove Lower Leaves
Remove any leaves that fall below the waterline to reduce bacterial growth, which can shorten the life of your flowers.

4. Avoid Heat and Sunlight
Keep your bouquet out of direct sunlight. Flowers last longer in cooler, shaded areas.

That’s it. With just a little TLC, you can enjoy the beauty and fragrance of fresh flowers for days to come.

The Wisteria Flower Fund

Celebrate Mom With a Gift That Does Good

This Mother’s Day, we’re honoring the women of Rochester by partnering with an organization that does so much to empower and care for them.

For every fresh flower arrangement or bouquet purchased now through May 11th, we’ll donate $1 to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.

The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is made up of survivors, supporters, a caring staff, and a passionate community. The Coalition has helped hundreds of women (and men) who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. They also welcome women with gynecologic cancers.

BCCR has created a space where women can come for support and education, to learn about issues impacting the breast and gynecologic cancer community, and if desired, to participate in events and advocacy. Their programs are free of charge and held at 1048 University Avenue in Rochester, NY, unless otherwise noted.

Breast Cancer is a serious health problem in New York State, with more than 12,000 new cases and 3,500 deaths reported each year. Breast cancer represents over 28% of all malignancies among women. It is the number one cause of death in women between the ages of 30 and 54. At this time, one in eight women can expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Currently, Monroe County ranks among the highest for all new diagnoses of breast cancer in New York State.
